Journey to the Shangri La
Start your journey to Tibet with a spectacular flight over the snow capped Himalayan mountains past Mt. Everest, Mt. Makalu and Mt. Kanchenjunga. In Lhasa visit the famous Potala and Norbulinkha palaces, the great Drepung Monastery, Jokhang Temple, and walk amongst the crowded Tibetan market - the bustling Barkor Bazaar. Drive past the beautiful Turquoise lake on the way to the historic town of Gyantse with its unique multi-storied Kumbum Stupa.
Our itinerary also includes the famous but rarely visited Shalu and Sakya Monasteries. After visiting the Tashilungpo at Shigatse we start our drive over the Himalayas by way of the incredible Arniko Highway that connects Kathmandu with Lhasa. Enjoy fabulous Himalayan mountain scenery again - this time from ground level !! Once over the high passes flanked by a range of Himalayan giants we enter a land of lush subtropical jungles and rushing streams as we descend steeply into the Bhote Koshi Gorge towards Nepal. At the town of Zangmu on the Tibet-Nepal border we bid farewell to our Tibet friends and drive through the terraced countryside of Nepal to end our journey in Kathmandu. An unforgettable encounter with forbidden Tibet.

Day 1 - ARRIVE LHASA
Fly from Kathmandu, Beijing or Chengdu to Gongar Airport, Lhasa in Tibet. Upon arrival you will be met by your Tibet Guide and transferred to Lhasa. Hotel.
Day 2 - LHASA SIGHTSEEING
Guided sightseeing tour of Potala, the winter palace of the Dalai Lama; Drepung, the biggest monastic university of Tibet & Nechung Monastery, temple of the State oracle of Tibet. Hotel.
Day 3 - LHASA SIGHTSEEING
Guided sightseeing tour of Jokhang, the central cathedral of Tibet, Barkhor, the bustling Lhasa market encircling the Jokhang Temple, Tibetan Medical Center & Norbulinka Palace. Hotel.
Day 4 - LHASA - GYANGTSE
Drive via Yamdrok Tso, the Turquoise Lake, to Gyangtse across Kampa-la & Karo-la passes. Visit Kumbum Stupa & Pelkor Chode Monastery. Hotel.
Day 5 - GYANGTSE - SHALU - SHIGATSE
Drive to Shigatse. En route visit Shalu Monastery. Visit Tashilhunpo Monastery, the seat of Panchen Lama who is the 2nd in the Tibetan Buddhist religious hierarchy & Shigatse Market. Hotel.
Day 6 - SHIGATSE - SAKYA - SHEGAR
Drive to Shegar across Tsou-la pass & Gyatso-la pass. En route visit Sakya Monastery. Guesthouse/Hotel.
Day 7 - SHEGAR - ZHANGMU
Drive over Lalung-la pass to Zhangmu. En route visit Milarepa Cave. Guest house/Hotel.
Day 8 - ZHANGMU - KATHMANDU
Walk across Friendship Bridge to Nepal & transfer to Kathmandu.
