Day by Day Activities

The starting point of the Annapurna short trek is Nayapul. If you are in Pokhara, it’s only a short drive of an hour to reach here. From Kathmandu, you will take a hill highway drive of 6-7 hours to reach Nayapul.

Similarly, from Kathmandu, you can also take a domestic flight and then take the drive to Nayapul. On the first day of the trek, we will have a shorter walking session passing by multiple hill settlements of the area. You can stop in one of the many teahouses on the way and try some local snacks. You will cross the suspension bridge over Tikedhunga Khola which then leads us to a steep trail to the village of Tikedhunga. Nearing the village of Ulleri, we can have some great views of Mt. Annapurna south (7219m.) and Hiunchuli (6441m).

The trek from Ulleri to Ghorepani shows us the art of living, farming, and agriculture in the hills of Nepal. The trek is relaxed, and most of the time we will have a gradual ascend through different types of Forest. From this segment of our route, we can spot many wildflowers and beautiful birds found around here. We will pass by small settlements and rest there for a while enjoying the view of nature surrounding us. In a clear sky, you can view snow-capped mountains behind the green hills.

After trekking for about 7 hours, you will reach the Ghorepani village in the late afternoon. Ghorepani is one of the major villages of the Annapurna region. It is here that most of the trails linking to the other villages and the regions (including ABC and circuit) diverge. With a brief village tour here, we can witness a lot about the local lifestyle and culture.

We will start our day early as our first goal today is to Hike up to Poon-Hill for the sunrise view. Poon hill is about an hour of walking from Ghorepani village. Poonhill is one of the best places to view the Annapurna range and the surrounding Himalayas in Nepal. The rays of the sun will treat us with majestic views of Annapurna South, Nilgiri, Dhaulagiri ranges, Tukuche peak, BahariShikhar, Hiuchuli, Annapurna I, II, III, IV, Lamjung Himal, Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), Mt.Manaslu ranges, and many other mountains. We will spend some time here and return to the Ghorepani village for breakfast.

Our trek continues from here to the village of Tadapani. The first section of the trail is a bit steep and goes through the Deurali pass. This pass is almost a similar height to that of Poonhill, and we can get a beautiful landscape view touching the horizon from here. We will then descend gradually and pass multiple settlements to reach the village of Tadapani.

We will have a comparatively shorter trek today giving us enough time to stop and admire the nature in the way. Our destination for today is the Gurung village of Ghandruk. The trail descends gradually and passes through rhododendron forests to reach Ghandruk. Nearing the village we can spot terraced farmlands and Animal sheds.

Ghandruk is about 3 hours of walk from Tadapani. The compact and close Gurung community is one of the most culturally rich settlements of the Annapurna region. After reaching the village, we can go for a brief visit around. The Gurung Museum here showcases some of the traditional art, culture, lifestyle, and attire of the people living in the village. We can try some of the local organic products alongside the mesmerizing view available from the village.

For the last stretch of our short Annapurna trek, we will walk past hilly settlements beside the Modi Khola to reach Nayapul with around a 5-hour hike. After reaching Nayapul, you can either drive to Pokhara or Kathmandu from here. With some great memories and majestic Himalayan scenery to bring back with you, this short trek highlighting the best bits of the Annapurna region terminates today. The Everest Vacation team will stay connected for your valuable suggestions and feedback.
