About Langtang

The Langtang region is a beautiful, ecologically diverse place in the central Himalayas. This region touches Tibet in the north and high hills to its south. This area consists of lush tropical forest, plain grasslands, small and high Passes, waterfalls, alpine forest and over it the beautiful Langtang and the peripheral Himalayas. Wildlife wise looking, Langtang is home to some of the rarest animals and birds of Asia. Red Panda, Snow Leopard, Black Bear, Himalayan Thar, Naur sheep, etc. are some of the protected species here. In the summer seasons, one can sight various species of migratory birds from Siberia and Mongolia regions heading here. Langtang NP is the area of Langtang protected by the government of Nepal, and one must take permits to enter here. Home to about 5,000 locals, mostly of Tamang ethnic group, one can have a twist of cultural experience here too. The area of Langtang is home to some of the holiest pilgrimage sites in Nepal. Gosainkunda Lake (also visible from the Langtang flight) is one of the prime pilgrim place and popular hiking option in this region. The area of Langtang, being near to epicenter of the 2015 earthquake in Nepal, suffered heavy loss. A massive avalanche took the life of more than 310 residents of the valley. One can still see the ruins around the valley of that great disaster.

About Kyanjin Gompa

The Langtang valley is most famous for its natural location, culture and Buddhist monuments. As the Tamangs following Buddhism are abundant in these areas, Langtang is home to some of the majestic monasteries of Nepal. The KyanjinGompa (Monastery) lying in the heart of the valley is one of the oldest gompas in the region. It is a building of simple Tibetan inspired architecture and is home to beautiful murals and Thanga paintings. As the gompa suffered some heavy damage by the Earthquake in 2015, one has to enter the area with precaution. The devotion of the locals to the Gompa, however, makes it one of the most significant sites in the Langtang National Park region.

Day by Day Activities

The best viewing experience of the Himalayas is early after sunrise in clear weather. So, we will start the tour early in the morning. Our private vehicle or cab will pick you up from your hotel around 6:00 am. From the hotel, you will have about 30 minutes of drive to the domestic flight section of Tribhuwan International Airport (TIA). After 20-30 minutes of your arrival, your chopper will be ready, and you will board it timely. Taking off from the airport in about 7:00 am, you will fly over the valley and start to gain greater altitude. The pilot or your guide will narrate some of the significant mountains that fall alongside you. After a majestic flight over the hills and mountains, you will land in KyanjinGompa. As you will have around 20 minutes of ground time, you will take a quick breakfast/tea. Take some pictures as you soak in the beautiful scenes surrounding you. You can visit the KyanjinGompa, which was partially destroyed by the earthquake of 2015. Your return flight from this brief but worthy tour will take place after the pilots signal. You will head towards TIA and view some of the remaining mountains. After your arrival in TIA in about 9:30 am, we will drive you back to your hotel.
